Air Canada has temporarily reversed its decision to impose a new seat selection fee on passengers who booked tickets on the lowest fares.

Earlier this month, some Air Canada customers received notices that the airline would soon charge passengers on standard or base fares to change their automatically assigned seat during check-in. The notice, which said the change would take effect April 24, sparked a wave of complaints.

By April 26, Air Canada had suspended the new fee. The flag carrier has not confirmed whether the decision was influenced by consumer backlash.
